148. Redefine Failure & Challenges for Kids, CAUTIONS about depleted hearts, Father/No-Father Factor, Raising Sons Series
Show Notes

Rich joined me on this week's episode for some very important topics. Please consider listening to our Father's Day Special Episode:

Some questions our sons may be thinking but not saying:

Can I be depended on? Will I be able to come through in difficult situations?

Am I capable? Can I achieve challenges that come my way?

Then we address:

What can a dad do? What does a mom do if there is no dad or not a healthy involved dad in their daughter or son's lives? CAUTIONS for depleted hearts (this is such an important section)

When a person is depleted in an area of our life (a question in our heart that is not being adequately answered = depleted),  we may go searching for the answers or searching for fulfilling our depletion in unhealthy ways.  Rich and I give some cautions about this in episode 148 - some cautions for parents of daughters, some cautions for parents of sons...

All of this in our special Father's Day Week episode of the Practically Speaking MOM Podcast.

This conversation may in fact be in my top ten on the podcast so far, out of 148 episodes!
This episode is for all parents - from single moms to widows to parents who have a father and a mother in the home. No matter what your family looks like, it is time to take a look at failure, pitfalls to avoid as we give our kids the messages they need to feel believed in and supported in their life, what to do when we blow it as parents (restoring with our kids, even grown kids), and cautions for girls who aren't feeling treasured or sons who aren't feeling capable in life's challenges.

While Rich and I have four girls and three boys, our youngest two have been daughters, thus many times my examples on the podcast end up being daughter examples. And, so it is, that I had a goal of making the month of June a very special month on the Practically Speaking MOM Podcast - a month for celebrating sons!  While the examples are about boys, the topics are very much applicable to both boys and girls.

"Teach your kids the principle: We are to do good in this world with the strengths we have been given.  Use your Strengths for GOOD." - episode 148

STEPS to Giving Kids GROWTH Opportunities:
1. Let them do hard things alongside us while we are doing hard things. Include them in our efforts, letting them see our example, and speaking wisdom into them in the skills and mindset needed for the challenges of life.
2. Provide opportunities (or identify opportunities) for growth and challenges in their life.
3. Prepare them for the opportunity - what tools will they need for success in this challenge?
4. Praise specific efforts.
5. Help them define their failures - those failures don't define them but are opportunities for motivation and growth!
